Rockwell Collins Demonstrates Live Fire Tracking for Precision Guided Munitions

Government and Industry Collaborate to Prove M-Code Maturity

In a collaboration between industry and government in a series of live fires tests in Yuma, AZ/USA, Rockwell Collins has demonstrated the successful integration of its Military-Code (M-Code) Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers into traditional GPS systems.

A series of seven ballistic and guided flight tests showcased the units’ live fire tracking capabilities for precision guided munitions. The M-Code receivers acquired M-Code and Y-Code GPS signals to guide the munitions to a specific target. In addition, in each test the GPS receiver rapidly acquired satellite signals to meet additional goals. All testing was done in a benign environment with no anti-jam or anti-spoofing features enabled.

The company completed delivery earlier this year of an order for 770 M-Code GPS receivers to the USAF Space and Missile Systems Center.

Together with the US Army and Air Force, we have demonstrated the power of next generation GPS for weapons use and cross-collaboration to drive modernised GPS solutions into the hands of the warfighter sooner,” Troy Brunk, Vice President and General Manager, Communication, Navigation & Electronic Warfare Systems at Rockwell Collins, explained.
