Ultracompact LWIR Camera Core for UAS Installation
Xenics nv, a leading Belgian developer of advanced infrared sensors, announced its participation in the LynkEUs beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) battlefield engagement programme on 16 July. MON reported on LynkEUs, a programme funded under the European Defence Industrial Development Programme (EDIDP) on 3 July.
Already at the forefront of innovation in the defence market, Xenics is also making significant investments in further developing cutting-edge technologies for demanding military and security applications. The company’s participation in LynkEUs marks its position as a leader in IR camera development and manufacturing.
The LynkEUs project will define an initial operational concept for a European BLOS capability, consisting of a land platform mounting a missile system, with a turret system to cue the missile, using a UAS for target designation. Xenics will demonstrate the suitability and utility of an ultracompact long-wave IR (LWIR) camera core for integration into the UAS.
LynkEUs includes a number of key European companies, such as MBDA: it is one of the early programmes of the European Defence Fund, aimed at promoting European autonomy.
