Wired For Sound

New Revision headset offers innovative noise cancelling technique.

Revision has showcased its new Sensys ComCentr-2 tactical headset at the Milipol exhibition held in Paris between 21st and 24th November.

The headset, which is being aimed at the dismounted combat community, is equipped with an active noise cancellation system. Moreover four microphones provide 360 degree situational awareness, enabling the wearer to determine the direction of a sound, such as a rifle shot, which the active noise cancellation system enables the wearer to hear at a safe level. The microphone incorporates an integral push to talk box and employs fully digital architecture, while being compatible with current and future radios and legacy transceivers, Regarding the latter, the headset’s digital architecture converts analogue audio into a digital signal.

Up to three radios can be connected to the headset, and all of the systems’ digital circuitry is based inside the headphones. Company officials told MONS that the headset incorporates passive protection in its physical design, alongside the active noise cancellation system, which ensures that no sound is ever loud enough to damage the wearer’s hearing, while leaving their aural situational awareness intact.

The firm continued that particular efforts had been undertaken to ensure that the active noise cancellation system was good at providing protection against low frequency sounds such as engine noise as well as higher frequency sounds; this is a particularly important consideration in reducing the fatigue of troops during advances to and from battle in vehicles for protracted periods of time. Officials from Revision added that the company is currently completing certification testing which it expects to conclude by February 2018, and will then be offering the product to the international market.
