WELP Armouring – Securing the Future

Superior 360° Ballistic Protection for Law Enforcement, VIP Protection and Security Applications

Against a background of rapidly accelerating interest in security solutions to enable law enforcement and security professionals to better perform their jobs, more reliably and in better safety conditions,WELP Armouring continues to offer well thought-out, effective and viable solutions for a wide variety of applications.

Most recent is the F2-TLC – an armoured special police vehicle based on the near ubiquitous Toyota LAND CRUISER utility vehicle. “Our clients attach great importance to having an armoured vehicle that looks no different than a serially-produced model and is as discreet as possible and inconspicuous,” the company explains. With this in mind, the F2-TLC has been developed for application to a variety of security and protection missions, including logistic support, convoy escort/management, diplomatic personnel transport, sensitive equipment transport, special operations platform and multi-purpose emergency services and disaster relief management authority vehicle. The baseline model is infinitely adaptable to specific customer requirements – the eventual configuration of each individual vehicle is limited only by the imagination (and budget) of the operator.

For governments, embassies, relief organisations and Special Forces across the globe, the company says, the F2-TLC is becoming a preferred choice for any and all the above mission sets, due primarily to its certified ballistic standards. The vehicle has been tested in a wide variety of operational scenarios by Germany’s TUV Nord vehicle inspection agency, under the toughest imaginable conditions. Successful certification by TUV has been reinforced by additional certification as to ballistic protection to VPAM VR7/BRV2009 and VR9/BRV2009 levels by the Beschussamt Mellrichstadt.

For the F2-TLC700 model, the use of new, reinforced springs and shock absorbers helps to increase the comfort levels for driver and passengers alike and also improves driving safety levels. The chassis has been entirely redesigned by WELP engineers and has been adjusted and enhanced to accommodate the vehicle weight increases emanating from the armouring solution. Similarly, the components of the existing braking system have been replaced with a higher performance and more effective system.

The WELP armouring solution has been developed and improved over years by the company’s in house engineering development team. The resulting ballistically protected vehicles provide effective protection for occupants and embarked materiel from robbery, kidnapping, attacks with small arms and the effects of improvised explosive devices (IEDs). One of the features on offer that sets the company’s solutions apart from a number of its competitors is the innovative 360° overlap protection system, which contributes to keeping occupants inviolable from a wide variety of ballistic attacks.
Key features for the F2-TLC include:

  • Bolt-on armour kit
  • Heavy duty bespoke engineered suspension system
  • Heavy duty hinges on all doors and hatches
  • Industrial coating
  • Exhaust pipe insert
  • Operable window door on the driver’s side
  • Intercommunication systems integrated with the public address system

WELP’s development programme aims at providing effective, customised solutions for ballistic protection and armoured vehicles to meet the highest automotive production standards and covering the most stringent and demanding ballistic protection requirements. The current certified vehicle portfolio covers sports utility vehicles (SUVs), pickup trucks, general utility transports and commercial vehicles. Solutions are offered as ‘one of a kind’ vehicles or as exclusive limited editions of vehicles from established series production manufacturers. Each design is carefully monitored by the company’s quality management system and the external, third party certification process is among the most rigorous in the world, ensuring customer and operator confidence in the vehicle’s capacity to do the job required of it. The company’s customer encompass a wide variety of organisations and market sectors, from non-governmental organisations to European agencies and from disaster relief organisations to executive protection services for heads of state.

The F2-TLC was first exhibited in public at Enforce Tac 2017, where the company showcased its capabilities to protect law enforcement Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams as well as military Special Forces operatives. On view to delegates at the same time was the FC-TLC700, a variant currently being deployed by police authorities in the German state of Saxony.

WELP Armouring has invested in excess of €12 million in the indiKar facility at Wilkau-Haßlau, availing itself of the capabilities of a state-of-the-art ballistics laboratory, a technology centre and an off-road test track. “We are proud to have gained the capability to manufacture complete systems, from the composition of the steel plate to final testing,” the company’s CEO, Ronald Gerschewski, stated.

Having successfully launched its first Security Forum at Wilka-Haßlau this year, attended by over 100 experts in research, development, production and security, WELP plans to host a second Forum at Georgsmarienhütte in 2018.
