Joint Venture Company Will Become Operational This Year
Frequentis AG and DFS Aviation Services, a subsidiary of Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH (DFS), the German air navigation service provider (ANSP), have signed an agreement to jointly deliver turnkey remote tower solutions for the air traffic management market, the companies announced at the World ATM Congress in Madrid on 6 March.
Remote tower control is a key topic in the air traffic domain. The concept of carrying out air traffic control services from any location and the ability to monitor several airports from a central location creates an exciting opportunity to change the way air traffic is monitored and managed going forward. This solution offers enormous potential in terms of process optimisation, utilisation of resources and functional synergies across multiple airport locations.
The two companies will form a joint venture company, Frequentis DFS Aerosense, to be based in Austria and managed by representatives of both companies: Katrin Scheidgen (DFS Aviation Services) and Christian Weiss (Frequentis) are the appointed managing directors of the joint venture.
Frequentis will contribute the technologies needed for state-of-the-art airport control, its expertise in developing customised remote tower systems and its worldwide network of subsidiaries and local representatives.
The two enterprises have already been working on the implementation of a remote tower centre at Leipzig Airport in Germany, where central control of the international airport of Saarbrücken will be carried out from the end of 2018, followed by Erfurt and Dresden.
