ESG wins major contract from Volkswagen AG for drone detection

On 15 January 2018, ESG Elektroniksystem- und Logistik-GmbH announced it was commissioned by Volkswagen AG to deliver a mobile drone detection system based on a VW CRAFTER for use within the group. This first major civil contract for the company was won against competition and includes the delivery of a comprehensive, vehicle-based unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV aka drone) detection system against the unauthorised usage of drones.

This commission proves again our customers’ trust in the holistic approach of our solutions and the cross-disciplinary, customer-oriented service and consulting com- petence of the ESG beyond our technical expertise,” Christoph Weber, Head of ESG Defence + Publuc Security, said.

GUARDION, the Counter-unmanned aerial systems (C-UAS) solution of ESG and and its cooperation partners is based on a mission-proven system that was previously used to secure major political events such as the G7 summit in Elmau in 2015, the state visit of US President Barack Obama in June 2016 and the G20 summit in Hamburg in 2017.

The ESG portfolio includes the selection and integration of high-performance sensors, the optimised operational picture and situation awareness via ESG’s Command & Control system TARANIS and the con- nection to existing IT networks and infrastructure. As a result, GUARDION offers scalable solutions adapted to the individual requirements of customers and scenarios for detecting and countering drones in stationary, mobile or deployable configuration. The GUARDION drone defence system combines scalable solutions customised to very specific customer requirements to reliably detect and defend against threats posed by unauthorised use of drones. GUARDION is offered as an integrated product, having a proven track record of reliable protection in various applications. It focuses on integrating electronic detection, verification and countermeasures, and connecting them to a position mapping and C2 tool. The HPEMcounterUAS effectors from Diehl Defence, R&S ARDRONIS from Rohde & Schwarz and the TARANIS C2 and position mapping system developed by ESG have proven their capabilities in operational use.

The next extensive assignments are nearing completion.
