VStar Bullish About MA-C Prospects

Sees interest in UAV SIGINT capability

Andy von Stauffenburg, the chief executive officer of VStar told MONS that the company is confident of attracting customers for its MA-C Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) sensor. This follows successful flight tests of the product onboard a Martin V-Bat vertical take-off and landing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) in March.

Mr. Stauffenburg continued that the sensor is capable of monitoring a bandwidth of 50 megahertz/MHz) to three gigahertz which encompasses most of the Very High Frequency (30-300MHz) and all of the Ultra High Frequency (300MHz to 3GHz) segments of the radio spectrum. He added that the MA-C had demonstrated a detection range of 81nm (150km) when onboard an aircraft flying at an altitude of almost 5,000ft (1,524 metres).

According to Mr. Stauffenburg, several capabilities make the MA-C sensor exceptional, namely a light weight and low power requirement which he states, “makes it ideal for smaller UAVs,” plus a lower cost “compared to similar systems.” Moreover, the MA-C uses a modular, scalable design enabling it to be customised according to operator needs, with an intuitive interface to ease its use. The company added that it can fit a satellite communications capability to the MA-C to extend the sensor’s communications and noted that it has experienced, “significant interest (in the MA-C) from various customers.”
