UMS SKELDAR’s V-200 VTOL drone takes centre stage at ILA 2018
UMS, a joint venture between Saab and UMS AERO Group, oined forces with key partner ESG Elektroniksystem- und Logistik-GmbH to present to visitors the V-200 and GUARDION drone defence system as prime examples of the two partners’ innovative technologies on show in Berlin. With a number of sizeable contracts in the pipeline, the partnership is proving to be a highly successful one.
ILA Berlin will not only be an opportunity to discuss future requirements, but the event also sees the next generation of UAV technologies in action. “UMS and ESG are continuing to innovate the UAV sector with technologies and platforms that provide companies with the latest solutions to their needs”, Carl Foucard, Head of Sales for UMS SKELDAR, explained. The VTOL SKELDAR V-200 platform is capable of flying extended missions and carries one or more sensors. Foucard noted, “[…] with our world-class SKELDAR V-200, which not only is proven to run on heavy fuels, but also operates multiple payloads, we have a VTOL platform that is completely fit for purposes, whether in a maritime, military or civilian setting.” In addition to hyperspectral sensors, high-definition optics can be used to understand, identify, and assist in a variety of missions.
Alongside the V-200 platform, ESG demonstrates its GUARDION drone defence system. This modular system has been designed to detect and defend against commercially available drones, therefore protecting users from the dangers emanating from their unauthorised use, according to the company. Gregor Zowierucha, ESG’s Head of Business Units Mission Aircraft and Unmanned Aircraft Systems, noted: “The UAV market is one that is growing exponentially, with a variety of drones of all shapes and sizes entering the space. The need for multirole UAVs that can carry out a wide range of applications such as reconnaissance, identification, target acquisition, and EW all the while being able to run on heavy fuels, is becoming ever greater, especially in the maritime sectors.
