$37 Million Order for Three LRIP Units – Delivery from 2022
The US Navy has ordered a further three Saab AN/SPN-50(V)1 radar systems under its Shipboard Air Traffic Radar programme. An award under phase two of low-rate initial production (LRIP), the contact value is $37.1 million (€30.6 million), with initial delivery scheduled for 2022.
The AN/SPN-50(V)1 radar system is a US version of Saab’s SEA GIRAFFE Agile Multi-Beam radar, and will function as the primary air traffic control surveillance radar for manned and unmanned aviation aboard the Navy’s nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and amphibious large deck vessels.
“By leveraging Saab’s radar technology, already in operational service with the US Navy, the Naval Air Traffic Management Systems Program Office and Saab [are] addressing shipboard air traffic control capability to ensure readiness and cost-efficiency,” commented Erik Smith, President and CEO of Saab in the US.
