Destined for Firefighting Tasking
On 22 April an ex-USAF C-130H HERCULES arrived in Chile, donated by the US government and soon to be followed by a second.
The first aircraft will replace the KC-130R lost in an accident in 2019. Both are to be used in firefighting duties, according to the Chilean government, for which specialised mission equipment has yet to be procured.
Originally delivered to the USAF in 1975, the first aircraft on its delivery flight carried 87.000 items of equipment and supplies for countering the pandemic, donated by the non-governmental organisation Project Hope.
