US Customs & Border Protection Orders OSI Systems Screening Solutions

$200 Million in Orders Already Placed

The Security Division of OSI Systems, Inc., has received a US Customs & Border Protection (CBP) contract valued at up to $390 million (€336 million) for low-energy portal (LEP) screening systems and associated services over a five-year period. The contract is additional to an earlier one for multi-energy portal (MEP) systems – also a multi-vendor contract – with a ceiling value of $480 million, according to a 7 October company statement.

The company has already received orders totalling approx. $200 million under the two contracts, and could potentially receive an additional $65 million if the CBP exercises its options. “We look forward to supporting CBP’s non-intrusive inspection program with our industry-leading Rapiscan, AS&E and S2 Global border security offerings that provide our customers a range of solutions to address continually evolving threats,” commented Deepak Chopra, OSI Systems’ Chairman and CEO.

LEPs and MEPs are non-intrusive inspection systems used for screening vehicles at border crossings to find illicit materials. LEPs are used for passenger vehicle screening, and OSI will supply CarView In-Lane and Z Portal systems for this order. MEPs are used for screening commercial trucks and the Eagle P60 ZBx inspection system will fulfil this requirement. These systems use a combination of transmission and Z Backscatter imaging to produce multiple views of the vehicle for efficient detection of contraband and threats. Also included with these orders is OSI’s new Under-Vehicle Backscatter option, which generates images of the underside of cars and trucks. These systems are expected to be deployed with the CertScan integration platform for image analysis, data integration and inspection adjudication.

CertScan, already in use with the CBP and other global authorities, connects a broad range of inspection technologies and transport related data into an efficient, unified workflow. By integrating the new inspection technologies with legacy lane equipment and shipment information, CertScan facilitates commercial trade crossing borders in a faster and more secure manner.
