M17/M18 MHS MFAL testing this summer

With the adoption of the SIG Sauer P320, the US Army has been searching for a new laser/light module (Multifunction Aiming Light, or MFAL) for its M17/M18 Modular Handgun System (MHS). While the offering from Streamlight based on their TLR-8 was a headrunner, there now is another contender: LaserMax Defense. 

Both light/laser modules were given to troops for field testing over the summer. Further testing, involving safety testing, budget planning and laser specific testing is needed before a new MFAL can be selected and adopted, with fielding sometime in 2019.
