Will Replace C-130Bs in Critical Condition
The Uruguayan Air Force (FAU) has purchased two KC-130H HERCULES from the Spanish Air Force for €21 million plus €1 million to cover spare parts. Javier García, Minister of Defence, announcing the deal, explained that payments will be spread over three years.
The decision is part of a modernisation programme inspired by the fact that the existing two C-130B operated by the FAU are in a ‘critical condition,’ according to the Minister. Now 60 years old, one of the aircraft is not in operational condition. The other was used for the ‘All at Home’ operation recently conducted by the government to repatriate Uruguayan citizens and residents stranded around the world by the COVID-19 epidemic.
The ‘new’ aircraft from Spain are some 20 years younger than the B models they will replace.
