EID to Supply Communications Equipment
URO Vehiculos Especiales S.A. (UROVESA) concluded a contract valued at approx. €60 million with the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) for the Portuguese Ministry of Defence in July for supply of its VAMTAC armoured patrol vehicle, the company announced in October. The contract was the result of an open international tender, according to the company.
MONCh understands the contract is for 139 vehicles, to be delivered in 2019-2022. The vehicles will be delivered in four differing configurations – personnel carrier, command vehicle, ambulance and special operations – all of which will be fitted with ballistic and mine protection and will feature high performance in terms of mobility and payload capacity.
UROVESA has subcontracted EID, a Portuguese company of Cohort plc, for the supply of communication equipment for this VAMTAC fleet. With a value of €4.8 million, the contract has a 24-month duration, according to EID.
EID will deliver “[…] reliable, high quality and state-of-the-art communications equipment that will contribute to the fulfilment of the Portuguese Army national and international missions,” commented company Managing Director, António Marcos Lopes.
