ECA Group wins contract with French Ministry of Armed Forces
On 13 July ECA Group announced that it was awarded a new 5 years contract by the French Ministry of Armed Forces for the supply of consumables for the French Navy PAP demining Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV). The value of the contract will depend on utilisation and is estimated to vary between €4million and €8million.
The French demining PAPs, which ECA Group began delivering to the French Navy in 1977, will remain in activity till the mid 2020s. They will be progressively replaced as the French Navy orders the new demining systems following the results of the evaluation of the Maritime Mine Counter Measure (MMCM) Anglo-French programme.
ECA Group is one of the major players within the MMCM programme and is highly involved in R&D for the future maritime systems of drones. In June it successfully demonstrated its Unmanned Mine Counter Measure Integrated System (UMIS) to the Belgian and Dutch Navies, which plan to replace their conventional minehunters with systems of drones a few years before the French Navy. The demonstration involved Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (such as A9-M and A18-M), Unmanned Surface Vehicles (such as INSPECTOR MK2) and demining ROVs (such as SEASCAN and K-STER C), and highlighted ECA Group’s advanced integrated capabilities for Unmanned Maritime Vehicles real time cooperation.
