NARP Plant Installing New Avionics, Communications and Surveillance Equipment
Ukroboronprom announced on 5 June that its Mykolayiv NARP Aircraft Repair Plant has delivered a further modernised Su-24MR reconnaissance aircraft to the Ukraine Air Force (UkAF), ahead of schedule.
A specialised engineering team has carried out a mid-life upgrade of the aircraft, installing new avionics, communications and surveillance equipment as well as replacing, repairing or refurbishing some onboard systems. A rigorous test campaign and an extended ferry flight to its operating base preceded formal UkAF acceptance.
The Su-24MR is a supersonic reconnaissance aircraft with the capability of conducting deep reconnaissance up to 400km from the front line. For this purpose, it is equipped with sideways looking radar (SLAR), allowing the tracking of ground targets, including enemy fortifications and equipment, using sensitive high-resolution cameras, radio detection systems and infrared sensors to detect camouflaged objects.
