Aviamir and BVAK Extend Airframe Life
At the end of December an Il-76TD of the Angolan Air Force (which is believed to have two of the type) arrived in Ukraine for a refurbishment programme to be carried out by Aviamir at the Belotserkovsky Cargo Aircraft Complex (BVAK). The objective is a significant extension of the aircraft’s operational service life.
Aviamir, which specialises in maintenance and upgrades of Il-76 and An-12 aircraft, has previously completed similar work on Il-76TDs for Angola and the Republic of Congo as well as several Angolan An-72s and -74s.
As well as the Il-76s, the Angolan Air Force is believed to operate several seven An-72/74s and a number of An-12s, An-26s, C212s, PC-6s and BN-2A ISLANDERs. It is also in the process of renewing its helicopter fleet, having ordered six A109E POWER from Leonardo in 2015 and taken delivery of two AW139s. Refurbished M1-24P attack helicopters are due to be delivered shortly by Russian Helicopters, which recently delivered eight armed Mi-171Sh as part of a 2013 Rosoboronexport contract.
