15 Vehicles Shipped Late 2020 Under $20 Million Contract
Turkey’s Katmerciler shipped around 15 HIZIR APCs to Uganda last year, under a 2019 contract valued at $20 million (€16.6 million), it has recently been revealed.
“HIZIR was our first armoured combat vehicle export. We want to repeat the export success we have achieved by civilian equipment for many years in the field of defence. We opened another door with HIZIR. We will continue this success with our HIZIR and other qualified vehicles that we have developed for different needs,” commented Deputy CEO, Furkan Katmerci, at the time the vehicles were shipped.
HIZIR carries a two-man crew and seven additional dismounts, weighs 16t and features a V-shaped hull for mine protection. It is powered by a 400hp Cummins six-cylinder diesel, giving a top speed of 110 km/h and a range of 700km – it has also recently entered Turkish military service. The vehicle is available in several variants, including combat, C2, CBRN, weapon carrier, ambulance, reconnaissance and border security. It can be fitted with an Aselsan SARP turret with machineguns or an automatic grenade launcher.
