UF PRO HUNTER FZ Jacket

MONCh Gear Box Product Review

Spring and autumn (aka unpredictable) weather calls for an all- purpose, comfortable, lightweight jacket that is wind- and water-repellent and easy to stow. The UF PRO HUNTER FZ Jacket offers great comfort and good weather protection during light to moderate precipitation and wind and keeps one warm in cooler temperatures.

Lined with 37.5 microfleece from Cocona Inc., the UF PRO HUNTER FZ Jacket was my main jacket during the main exhibitions this spring (about 10-14 degrees Celsius), as it not only kept me warm, but also does not look too tactical, so one can wear this light-shell jacket for a business casual look. There is no morale patch velco area nor is there a hood, which adds to the more casual look.

37.5 microfleece is designed by Cocona for quick absorption of body moisture, draining it out and drying the body. According to Cocona, 37.5 technology helps keep your body at the ideal core temperature of 37.5C and helps keep the microclimate next to your skin at the ideal relative humidity of 37.5 percent. 37.5 technology works to keep the optimum relative humidity in your microclimate so your body more efficiently maintains an ideal core temperature.

Furthermore, fabrics made with 37.5 technology dry quick, diminishing wet cling. This I found to be true during my Nordic marches, where totally unpredictable weather hit this jacket (and me inside it) with almost everything the weathergods threw at it. The windproof front, back and arms kept me warm for hours, while the sides, made out of fleece brought optimal ventilation.

The UF PRO HUNTER FZ Jacket is also featured in MILITARY TECHNOILOGY #10, available at AUSA (08-10 Oct 2018), FUTURE FORCES Convention (17-19 Oct 2018); Euronaval (22-26 Oct 2018); Milipol Qatar (29-31 Oct 2018) or here.

I tested the UF PRO HUNTER FZ Jacket on a short 32 hour trip, mostly marching through marshland and swampy plains to the coast, where it was wet with little downpours.

The jacket’s sides, made out of fleece brought optimal ventilation.

The jacket’s outside fabric is elastic and smooth. The arms have four pockets (Striker sleeve pocket configuration, each sleeve has two), which I found very handy, while the side pockets are high up, a thing I’m not too fond of, but that’s just me. This feature makes it easier to carry a backpack or a vest. Each pocket has YKK zippers.

The jacket’s front YKK zipper has a low profile configuration.

As do the other zippers on this jacket.

The jacket features a great high collar, plus a YKK zipper that has a low profile configuration, which doesn’t provoke any discomfort when wearing a body armour vest. The sleeves are slightly elongated (great for my superlong arms) and the cuffs are supplied by rubber bands. No drawstrings can be found, which at the bottom, during long active wearing with a backpack or vest, makes it ride up.

Because of these characteristics, we wear the HUNTER FZ around the Nordic countries in most rainy conditions.

A great jacket for everyday use, e.g. in urban areas where one does not want to stand out as a tactical nut. The fit and finish is excellent, being slim fitting, without being too tight nor too baggy. Having used the UF PRO HUNTER FZ jacket extensively during high intensity work on cold and windy days, long marches through drizzle and during exhibitions, I found, even after washing, this great jacket did so far not degrade.

This jacket makes a really nice fall and spring outer layer and also works great as a midlayer in cold conditions. Definitely a keeper. MONCh Gear Box approved!
