UDT 2019: Seebyte Takes a Bite Out of Automated Robotic Challenges

Almost ten years since it’s first UDT and still more advances…

Since meeting a then Scottish start-up at UDT Hamburg almost a decade ago, NAVAL FORCES feels it can afford to be candid and say that Seebyte is probably the global leader in creating robust, reliable, and innovative software for unmanned maritime systems.
…Why?

Aside from their ubiquity and ability to help disparate UAVs integrate, interact and interoperate – even in a multi-national naval defence exercise – Seebyte’s software allows autonomous maritime vehicles to be actually autonomous with a chat-bot to appraise operators of various situations and manage and control the AUVs throughout a mission.

The mission order is given in simple terms: “Scan this area and collect intelligence.” The AUVs then divide tasks amongst themselves – a virtual division of labour – with the help of the Seebyte operating system and off they go.

The chat-bot function (co-developed with Herriot Watt University in Edinburgh) will interact with the command control centre to update the human element of the mission. This allows them to redirect mission requirements or elements via the Seebyte software and its chat-bot to make the most effective use of the autonomous assets. The Seebyte software allows them autonomous unmanned vehicles to interact with each other in best fulfilling the mission, share information and report when and in the manner required. Hence, the Seebyte allows AUVs to “crack-on” and complete its tasks. Seebyte is owned by Battelle Memorial Institute.
