Spanish Company Conducts Live Support to Australian Flight

UAV Navigation has carried out real-time monitoring and customer support, from Spain, of an unmanned aircraft being flown in Australia.

The capability, which UAV Navigation says is unique in its segment of the market, was made possible by the company’s VISIONAIR CLOUDLINK tool. This combination of software and cloud-computing infrastructure allows experts at the company to monitor a client platform during flight, confirm that everything is operating correctly, and, should the need arise, to offer fault reporting, troubleshooting and advice to the operator in real time.

“Our direct competitors do not have a similar service,” said Carlos Lázaro, head of the company’s commercial department. The identity of the Australian customer was not disclosed.

UAV Navigation says VISIONAIR CLOUDLINK does not require any licenses to operate so is not reliant on any third party: an agreement between the company and the aircraft operator is all that is needed to put it to use. The bandwidth requirement is lower than other commercially available tools, the company says. It argues that existing solutions that may rely on direct communication from provider to aircraft make connectivity less stable. Inserting a cloud server between the remote technician and the aircraft makes the connections more reliable. Those connections are also encrypted to ensure security.
