Replacing HALCON Trainers
The Chilean Air Force (FACH) has received two additional Embraer A-29B SUPER TUCANO training aircraft, bringing the fleet to a total of 20 following completion of the acquisition programme. They are destined for combat pilot training and are assigned to the 1st Aviation Group, based at Los Cóndores Air Base in Iquique.
SUPER TUCANOs have already been operating in northern Chile for a decade. The type is currently replacing the fleet of Enaer/Casa A-36 HALCON jet trainers. After completing their training in the A-29B, pilots move on to fly the F-5E TIGRE III at Punta Arenas or the F-16 at Iquique or Antofagasta.
