FNSS Programme Aims at 20+-Year Life Extension
FNSS is to upgrade the Turkish Land Forces’ ACV-15 advanced APC (AAPC) fleet, equipping the vehicles with modern subsystems to extend their service life by 20+ years while improving performance and capability, the company announced on 31 May.
Originally delivered by FNSS in the early 2000s, the ACV-15s will receive improvements in mobility, protection level, life support, electronic systems, situational awareness and firepower. A a dual gun remote controlled weapon system (RCWS) with close-range surveillance system will be installed; an auxiliary power unit, air conditioning system and automatic fire suppression system; spall liners; and driver vision and navigation systems. A gunshot detection system will be integrated and the entire vehicle overhauled, including engine and transmission. The resulting vehicle will demonstrate improved reliability and durability, while increasing mission capabilities and minimising maintenance requirements during operational deployments.
FNSS has a legacy of successful modernisation programmes for operators including the armed forces of Bahrain, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia and the United States, in addition to Turkey. In fact, it has recently begun the delivery of modernised ACV-15s to the Turkish Army.
