Further Strengthening of Bilateral Ties
Turkish Aerospace (TUSAŞ) announced on 26 January it has signed an MoU with Pakistan’s national space agency to work on joint satellite projects.
The Ankara-based company said it will conduct joint studies with the Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) in Karachi on electric communication satellites and other space projects within the scope of the agreement. No further details were provided, but the MoU highlights the growing connection between Ankara and Islamabad in the technology and defence industrial sectors. Both countries already co-operate in several defence-related projects, and are seeking to further strengthen bilateral ties.
For instance, TUSAŞ and Pakistan’s National Engineering and Science Commission (NESCOM) are working together to advance development of the Anka MALE UAV, with the two companies signing a contract in August 2021 that will see NESCOM manufacture some components for the UAV. The two countries are also co-operating to provide four Milgem class corvettes to the Pakistan Navy.
