FBI Receives TrellisWare Radios

TrellisWare to provide advanced networking technology to FBI

TrellisWare Technologies, a leading innovator of tactical networking solutions, announced the win of a multi-party $100 million Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract award to support the FBI’s Operational Technology Division. Under the contract, TrellisWare radios running the company’s TSM mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) waveform will be provided to enhance Department of Justice (DOJ) tactical mesh/mobile operations.

The multi-party award, what the FBI calls the small business set aside award, goes to Persistent Systems; TrellisWare Technologies; Brimtek; Domo Tactical Communications; Silvus Technologies; Harris and General Dynamics. In a written announcement, Persistent Systems officials say they will provide the MPU5 smart radio, which provides a self-forming, self-healing, and scalable wireless Internet protocol network. More on that here

TrellisWare radios support multiple deployment scenarios and provide simultaneous voice, data, video, and Position Location Information (PLI) in a single tactical wireless network. One of the key innovations behind the TSM waveform, TrellisWare’s Barrage Relay technology, offers optimal bandwidth, great scalability, and reliability to FBI agents for special events, when commercial systems fail, and for highly dynamic operations when things can change at a moment’s notice.

TrellisWare radios provide secure communications and can scale to support small to large networks on a single radio channel, supporting multiple real-time video streams and uninterrupted communications in challenging environments such as underground, inside buildings, and within urban areas.

We are honored to have been selected as a recipient of one of these contracts, and we are excited to provide the FBI with the dynamic networking capabilities that only our TSM waveform can provide,” Metin Bayram, President and CEO of TrellisWare, said. “We look forward to working with the FBI to enhance communications performance for their most challenging tactical operations.”

TrellisWare’s TSM waveform is one of the most suitable MANET to support uninterrupted real-time communications. The TSM waveform is designed to thrive in real tactical dynamic environments full of radio frequency (RF) volatility, high mobility of operators, and signal interference. The TSM waveform has proven deployment in urban, subterranean, cave and tunnel, and in-building settings with harsh RF propagation. This is because TrellisWare’s core technology, called Barrage Relay networking is designed with a robust physical layer that incorporates receive-side collaborative combining techniques to handle extreme RF multipath fading and enable simultaneous relaying of all transmissions, including: voice, data, video, and position location information (PLI). Barrage Relay eliminates routing and minimizes network overhead, enabling much more reliable performance versus traditional MANET solutions, according to the company. TSM is a true waveform designed to run on a host of Software Defined Radios (SDR). It provides high throughput, range, scalability, and mobility. TSM is not based on consumer technologies such as Wi-Fi (802.11), DECT, WiMax (802.16) or LTE chips, and it is not dependent on internet-driven routing protocols. Instead, TrellisWare’s Barrage Relay technology is advanced digital signal processing. The TSM waveform is engineered to solve tactical MANET challenges, resulting in reliable operations for tactical environments.

We are confident that the MPU5 will set a new standard for performance, capability, and features found nowhere else in the industry, and we’re extremely proud to be one of the awardees chosen by the Department of Justice,” Dr. Herbert Rubens, CEO of Persistent Systems, commented.
