Tianhai Electronic, exhibiting at this year’s Defence and Security exhibition held in Bangkok
Tianhai Electronic, exhibiting at this year’s Defence and Security exhibition held in Bangkok between 6th and 11th November has updated MONS on the firm’s development plans for its PR-9560 Very High Frequency (VHF/30 megahertz/MHz to 300MHz) handheld tactical radios. The company told MONS that it plans to reduce the physical size of the radio, and to enhance its software, with these changes coming into effect by the end of the year. The PR-9560 entered service with the People’s Liberation Army in 2015, and the firm added that the radio is also in service with undisclosed customers in the southwest Asia.
The PR-9560 is designed for intra-squad communications, and also communications between echelons, given its two channel design, and is in service to this end the company added. In terms of the radio’s waveforms, it carries a Voice Relay Network waveform which can provide between four to six hops to extend range, plus a Packet Radio Network waveform used for command post to squad communications, across the same number of hops. The radio also includes electronic counter-counter measure techniques in the form of a 1000 hops-per-second frequency hopping mode. The radio can also work with a vehicle mounted adaptor which increases its transmission power from five watts (W) to 20W.
