Operational Life Extended to 2030
Under the FLORAKO radar life extension programme sanctioned last year by the Swiss government, Thales has been awarded a €74 million contract by armasuisse to update the Air Force’s MASTER radars.
This is the first time Thales has modernised these radars. RUAG Defence will act as a principal subcontractor to Thales and the work will be conducted over a 60-month period. This will include a 24-month development phase in which previous radar technologies will be leveraged. Radars will be delivered to the Air Force as they are completed and their performance tested.
The Swiss air defence C2 system, designed by Thales in collaboration with other industrial partners, is one of the most comprehensive and capable in the world and has been fully operational since 2004.
