Secure resiliant tactical waveform datalink
At Thales‘ bi-annual Pre-Paris Air Show Press Tour, the company detailed its μTMA, which allows to transmit HD video and IR, two flows at the same time.
According to the company, the μTMA secured line-of-sight datalink is “the perfect solution for ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance) communications between aircraft, small UAV or UGV/USV/UUV and unit leaders on the ground, opening up a wide array of opportunities for flexible mission scenarios.”
High Definition Full motion video provides the “eye in the sky” surveillance capability that operators need for near real-time visual feedback on a situation as it unfolds. The device provides interoperable, ITAR free and resilient datalink, enhancing mission efficiency while keeping security and safety.
Used on the SPY’RANGER mini surveillance and reconnaissance UAV, for which Thales was awarded a contract for 35 System of Mini-Drones for Reconnaissance (SMDR), consisting of three air vehicles each, the system will be used in C-band for the French Army, while the export version (the Indian Army seems to be interested) will be using S-band (with L-band being optional).
The roadmap forsees having a prototype interoperable via the analog FM waveform with the ROVER waveform by end 2019.
