Terma Delivering Combat Suites for Indonesian FAC

C-series for KCR-60 Sampari Class

Terma has begun delivering elements of the C-series combat suites Indonesia ordered in May 2019 for installation on four KCR-60 (Sampari class) fast attack craft (FAC) for its navy.

As we speak, the final shipment for the combat management system [CMS] No 4 is on its way to Indonesia. Our local team has already begun installations, and soon the sensor and weaponry into the C-Flex system of the KCR-60s will come,” Per Boye Ovesen, Head of Indonesia Programmes at Terma, said in a 20 January statement.

The announcement comes after the Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL) recently approved factory acceptance tests of the new CMS for each of the KCR-60s, two of which will be newbuilds from local shipbuilder PT PAL in Surabaya, while the remaining two are existing vessels undergoing a complete upgrade. Terma said some tests had been conducted virtually due to Covid-19-related travel restrictions.

The C-series combat suite includes the C-Flex CMS, the C-Guard decoy launching system, the C-Fire fire control system, and the SCANTER 4603 air and surface surveillance radar.

As part of the May 2019 deal, the value of which has yet to be disclosed, the company responsible for full system integration of shipborne sensors and effectors such as naval guns and missile systems. In addition, Terma has assumed the role of combat systems integrator, and established offices in both Jakarta and Surabaya, where the new vessels are being built.

All four KCR-60s are expected to be ready for sea acceptance and live-firing tests later this year, possibly in July-August. When completed, these craft will be equipped with surveillance, electronic support measure, and IFF systems, as well as several guns, missile launchers, and decoy systems, noted the company.

While this is Terma’s first large CMS programme in Indonesia, the Danish company has delivered combat suites to other countries in the Asia-Pacific region including Brunei, Thailand, and Australia.
