MTRS Inc II Most Widely Produced Robot in Service
Teledyne FLIR has delivered the 1,000th Man Transportable Robot System Increment II (MTRS Inc II) UGV to the US Army, the company announced on 7 June.
Designated Centaur, the platform is used primarily by EOD teams and has become the most widely produced ground robot used by the US armed forces since Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. The US Army selected Endeavour Robotics (now FLIR Defense) as the MTRS Inc II provider for a multi-year programme of record in 2017. Since then, the US services have ordered over 1,800 Centaurs at a total cost in excess of $250 million.
The robot is a medium-sized UGV that provides a standoff capability to detect, confirm, identify, and dispose of hazards. Weighing roughly 160lbs, the rugged robot features an advanced visual/thermal camera suite for day/night operation, a dexterous manipulator arm that reaches over six feet, and the ability to climb stairs. Modular payloads can be used for CBRN detection and other operations.
