Teledyne Brown to Support AN/SPY-2

$29 Million to Build and Sustain Cooling Equipment Units

Teledyne Brown Engineering has been awarded a $29 million (€24.5 million) contract by Raytheon to produce and sustain cooling equipment units (CEU) for the AN/SPY-2 transportable surveillance radar.

The world’s most powerful mobile ground radar system, the AN/SPY-2 requires one CEU per unit. The system interfaces with the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) fire control and communications system, among others. The radar can be deployed in a variety of modes and is a critical element in the Ballistic Missile Defense System, used to detect, acquire, track, and discriminate possible incoming ballistic missiles.  The CEU is a transportable shelter that houses power distribution to the radar and provides temperature controlled liquid cooling to the antenna equipment unit.

The company began work on the contract in September last year at its Huntsville, AL, facility. Its role covers the manufacture and assembly of multiple CEUs and sustainment over the next three years.
