Upgrade to Include Improvements to Navigation System
TAURUS Systems, the joint venture between MBDA Deutschland and Saab Dynamics, announced on 8 October that the company has won a contract valued at almost €30 million for upgrade and maintenance of the operational capability of the TAURUS KEPD 350 weapon system used by the Spanish Air Force.
The TAURUS KEPD 350 advanced stand-off weapon has been in the inventory of the Spanish Air Force for a decade and is today deployed on the EF-18. With its very long range and unique, intelligent warhead, it provides an important strategic and tactical advantage for the service. It is optimised for attacking deeply buried bunkers or infrastructure as well as aerial targets, even in anti-access and area-denied environments.
As part of the contract, the operational capability of the Spanish TAURUS will be updated by improvements to the navigation system, considerably increasing survivability beyond the original configuration. With the update, the weapon is fit for purpose for highly complex modern and joint operational environments.
