Taiwan Requests PATRIOT Re-certification

$620 Million to Support 30-Year Operational Life

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) in the United States is seeking a possible Foreign Military Sale covering the re-certification of its PATRIOT Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) missiles. The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress of State Department approval for this potential sale on 9 July.

TECRO has requested recertification capability, including the replacement of expiring limited life components (LLCs) and certification testing, in order to support an operational life of thirty years. Also on the shopping list are test and repair of PAC-3 missiles, including stockpile reliability testing  and field returns; repair, return and replenishment of missile items and ground support equipment component level parts and a seeker spares pool to improve the turnaround time of repair and recertification efforts; air transportation services for missile processing; US government and contractor technical and logistics support; and other related elements of logistics support.  The total estimated cost is $620 million (€543 million).

The prime contractor will be Lockheed Martin, Camden, AZ. There are no known offset agreements proposed in connection with this potential sale.
