Interceptors Intended for Counter-Narcotics Operations
On behalf of the government of Nicaragua, Commander-in-Chief of the Army, Gen Julio César Avilés, accepted delivery of four fast interceptor patrol boats donated by the government of Taiwan. The handover took place during celebrations marking the 40th anniversary of the fall of the Somoza regime.
Donated as part of an agreement of mutual cooperation signed by the two nations, the vessels will be used primarily for countering narcotics trafficking and transnational crime.
