T-100 to Compete for T-X With DRS as Prime

CAE Will Continue to Support Offer

Having decided late last month not to proceed with a joint bid with Raytheon for the US Air Force Advanced Pilot Training System, better known as T-X, Leonardo announced on 8 February that it will compete for the programme, valued at anything up to $16 billion, with its US company, Leonardo DRS, as prime contractor.

The Leonardo bid will centre on the T-100 integrated training system, based on the M-346 MASTER jet trainer that has already won several competitions. “The T-100 will be a US-based programme that will bring significant economic benefits to the country through a newly-established and -skilled US work force, in addition to the technological and industrial capabilities embedded in newly-built US-based manufacturing facilities,” the company stated. Bill Lynn, CEO of Leonardo DRS, added that his company, “is proud to bring to this highly competitive tender Leonardo’s mature, readily available and technologically advanced solution that will also have a significant economic impact in the US.”

T-100 features twin International Turbine Company F124 turbofan engines and an embedded tactical training system to enhance immersive pilot training. CAE, which has already delivered training solutions for the M-346, will continue to support the Leonardo bid in development of the T-100 Ground Based Training System.
