New GIRAFFE 4A and Upgrades for GIRAFFE AMB
Saab signed a contract on 9 December with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for an integrated sensor and C2 for the ground-based air defence role. Valued at approx. SEK2.1 billion (€205 million), the delivery period extends to 2025.
The order includes a number of GIRAFFE 4A multifunctional radars and upgrades for a number of existing GIRAFFE AMB surface radars currently in Swedish service. Saab will also update existing and deliver additional C2 systems, and provide extensive integration of the air defence battalions’ fire units.
“Together with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration and the Swedish Armed Forces, we have created a comprehensive world-class solution that integrates the sensors, command and control systems and fire units in the ground-based air defence system. This is an important order for Saab [delivering] a central part of Sweden’s defence capability,” stated Anders Carp, Saab Deputy CEO.
