MONCh Gear Box Product Review
One thing I love is a good fixed blade knife. Gerber‘s STRONG ARM, in bery durable black ceramic coating that has a smooth finish, is a full tang construction with an exposed point on the pommel, which can be used as a glass breaker, coming out of a glass-reinforced diamond textured, rubberised handle that is secure in the hand even when wet. The knife balances very nicely and the roughly equal proportions between the handle and blade (420HC at 12.2cm/9.8in) are aesthetically pleasing.
At an overall length of 24.8cm (9.8in) the STRONG ARM weighs 204g (7.2oz) and comes with Gerber’s brilliant Modular Sheath system, giving it an overall weight of 309g (10.9oz), making it easy to carry, and perfect for those ( dismounted infantry, SOF units) looking to trim as much weight as possible.
The sheath system is designed to be adaptable to the user, giving the user various carry options: MOLLE mount, a drop leg system and a belt loop option for horizontal carry (the knife is too big for concealed carry, but it is great for a snag free carry while wearing armour). There are recessed portions that click into the sheath providing positive retention that can be used as thumb pads for defensive purposes.
The only downside is the use of 420 HC, as it will not hold an edge for long, but with sharpening this becomes an amazing cutting tool.
