ST Engineering Celebrates a Half Century of Innovation

Engineering With Passion for Next Stage of Growth

Known today for being a competent defence and aerospace engineering group formed as a result of a 1997 amalgamation, Singapore Technologies Engineering Limited (ST Engineering) actually traces its roots back further, to the formation of Chartered Industries of Singapore on 27 January 1967. From those origins, the current company has evolved through the delivery of innovative solutions in aerospace, electronics, land and marine systems.

Headquartered in Singapore, where it is one of the largest companies on the national Stock Exchange, the group now has a presence in 24 countries and the number of employees in its more than 100 subsidiaries and associated companies is now about 23,000. Revenues in 2015 amounted to $6.34 billion.

The group intends a year-long celebration during 2017 and has selected the theme “Engineering with Passion” to underscore the passion to succeed and dedication to innovation that have characterised its history to date.

“As ST Engineering builds on its many successes, it will do well to remember its core purpose to make a difference in the lives of our fellow citizens, and our soldiers. As its management and team look to the future, they must also recognise that others before them have broken new grounds, created new pathways and sweated the course. We need to understand why decisions had been made the way they were. Only then can we have the wisdom to build on and improve the remarkable heritage of those who came before us,” Ho Ching, founding Chairman of ST Engineering 1997-2003, explains. She is now Executive Director and CEO of Temasek Holdings.

ST Engineering has come a long way, with achievements in technology and innovation driven by its 23,000 employees,” says Vincent Chong, President & CEO of ST Engineering. “As we embark on our new journey, we will continue to focus on growth and value creation. We will invest across business cycles, leverage our Group synergies more, and invest more in our people and seek to further spark employee passion so that every one of them builds meaningful connections with the Group’s mission for our next phase of growth.”
