A Spike for the Latvian Armed Forces

Latvia signs a contract for delivery of Spike missile systems to armed forces by 2023

Latvian Minister of Defence, Raimonds Bergamis, and Eurospike Managing Directors, Guenter Lauer and Arie Lapidot, signed a €108million contract on 12 February for the purchase of various Rafael Spike anti-tank missile systems.

The Spike is a family of multi-purpose precision missile systems with sophisticated electro-optic CCD / IIR sensors for operation during the day, at night and in adverse weather conditions. Their lofted trajectories enable the warhead to hit the target at its most vulnerable part with pinpoint precision. The Spike family includes the Spike Short Range, the Spike medium- and long-range for the infantry, the Spike Extended Range and the Spike No Line Of Sight (25km).

The acquisition of anti-tank weapons is one of Latvia’s defence sector priorities and the Spike missile systems will not only complement the existing stockpile of the National Armed Forces regular units, but will also be installed on combat vehicle reconnaissance (Tracked) units that have been purchased from the UK. They will be gradually integrated by 2023.
