Spanish Army Helicopter Simulation Centre Equipped with Indra Simulators

Eight Sims for Four Different Types at Two Separate Locations

A backbone of the Spanish army’s Aviation Academy (ACAVIET), the Helicopter Simulation Centre (CESIHEL) provides training for helicopter pilots and maintenance crews alike. The centre contains eight full flight simulators (FFS) for the CH-47D CHINOOK, AS532 COUGAR, EC135 and EC665 TIGER platforms, deployed at Colmenar Viejo (six FFS) and Almagro, where the two TIGER simulators operate. All have been built using Indra technology.

In 2019, two NH90 simulators, also developed by Indra, will enter service at the Agoncillo base, bringing the service’s total inventory to 10 modern devices.

CESIHEL training covers the gamut of capability from initial type certification to complex tactical training, with a particular specialisation in night operations using night vision goggles (NVG).  The ability to provide fully networked joint operational training has proven to be important for training crews prior to deployment to harsh operational environments, such as Afghanistan.

Through a partnership agreement with the Army which offers a fine example of public-private partnership, Indra provides maintenance and enhancement services for the simulators. In return, the Army allows the use of the facility, whenever available, for Indra to provide training services to other clients. There have, therefore, been crews from several nations who have benefited from the training facilities at CESIHEL.
