SOFINS 2019: Codan Unveils Latest HF Radio

SENTRY-H 6110-MP SDR provides ease of use affordability & quicker upgrades

Codan Communications unveiled its latest High Frequency (HF) software defined radio (SDR) for the first time to the European market this week.

Highlighting the new SENTRY-H 6110-MP at the Special Operations Forces Innovation Network Seminar (SOFINS) at Camp de Rouge, France, Codan Communications described how the solution represented one of the ‘smallest and lightest’ tactical MANPACKs currently available in the market.

The SENTRY-H, which was launched on 4 February, comprises a 30W SDR weighing less than 5kg and providing end uses with approximately 55 hours of operational use.

The radio is controlled by Codan’s own Xtend software application which can be uploaded onto a smartphone or tablet. This is used to support voice and text-based communications, company sources added.

According to Paul Sangster, Executive General Manager at Codan Communications, the SENTRY-H 6110-MP SDR provides tactical elements with “ease of use; affordability; and quicker upgrades ensuring customers have the flexibility required in today’s challenging environments.”

The release of the product comes at a time when armed forces are seeking alternatives to satellite communications to avoid jamming and interference by enemy forces. HF radio waves, which bounce off the Ionosphere, provide an alternative and more secure means of achieving tactical though to strategic connectivity across contested battlespaces, defence sources explained to MONCh.
