Mobile Phone Location and Comms System Integration to Mission System
Nova Systems has selected the ARTEMIS mobile phone location and communications system, developed by Smith Myers, for integration into the former company’s airborne mission systems, destined for the UK Maritime Coast Guard Agency (MCA).
The systems will be fitted to the helicopter fleet constituting Britain’s second-generation SAR solution (SAR2G), which builds upon the existing programme with the addition of fixed-wing and unmanned aircraft: ARTEMIS will be installed on both fixed- and rotary-wing platforms. The 10-year contract combines existing wing services into a fully integrated solution, led by Bristow Helicopters, that will maintain critical SAR aviation services, nationally, well into the next decade. The mixed fleet will include six King Airs and a Schiebel Camcopter S-100 UAS, as well as a fleet of 18 helicopters, including nine AW189s, three S-92s, and six AW139s.
ARTEMIS has been in service with the Royal Norwegian Air Force – the lead customer – since 2017 on the service’s AW101s. The growing customer base includes programmes in Europe, North America, South America, and the Middle East. “ARTEMIS is a fully UK-developed and produced technology, which has been recognised by the Royal Aeronautical Society with its Silver Medal award,” commented Managing Director, Andrew Munro.
