Focus on STUNNER, C-DOME, BNET, Cyber and Big Data, and SPIKE LR 2

At Singapore Airshow, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems is focusing on the STUNNER multi-mission interceptor against a variety of asymmetric short-range tactical ballistic missiles, inexpensive large calibre rockets, cruise missiles and unmanned aerial systems (UAS); C-DOME (a naval defence system designed to effectively protect combat vessels against a large set of modern threats, using the combat-proven IRON DOME interceptor); Broadband MANET IP Software-Defined Radio (SDR) for ground and air applications (the BNET SDR family); Cyber and Big Data; and the SPIKE LR 2 airborne, precise, multi-purpose tactical missile.

Four C-DOME launchers with 10 interceptors are to the installed on all four SAR six ships by thyssenkrupp Marine Systems for the Israeli Navy.

Rafael brings everything from Cyber Security to Cyber Defence i n the form of CYBER DOME, a comprehensive cyber defence solution, tackling advanced cyber threats, campaigns and challenges. Rafael is the prime contractor of two of the main cyber programmes in Israel – the Israeli National CERT, and the national Central Credit Register for the Bank of Israel.

In data fusion and analysis platforms, Rafael informs on WISDOM STONE, an efficient, adaptable, scalable, and robust big data analysis platform. The platform enables the customer to reveal hidden patterns, connections and activities. WISDOM STONE facilitates advanced tools for real-time analysis, data mining, and information visualisation capabilities. Suitable for use by the military, homeland security, intelligence and organisations.

We reported in October 2017 that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) awarded Rafael a contract to supply more than one thousand SPIKE LR 2 5th generation electro-optical (EO), precision-guided missiles. MONS understands the IDF will use the missiles for its infantry units. The missile has a range of 5.5km when fired from ground launchers (an increase of over 35% from the 4km range of the original SPIKE LR) and up to 10km when fired from a helicopter (using the RF Data Link). The IDF is a long-time operational user of the SPIKE missile family, and the addition of the SPIKE LR 2 will enhance both its infantry engagement range and its lethality against a large variety of targets. The SPIKE LR 2’s connectivity through the IDF’s network of sensors and effectors will enhance overall force capabilities. The IDF’s LR 2 procurement complement the IDF’s fielding of the Integrated Control Launch Unit (ICLU), the new digital networked launchers that provide improved tactical connectivity for third party target allocation.

Rafael furthermore presents the following systems:

IRON DOME combat-proven active defence system against short range artillery rockets, mortars and UAS with more than 1,700 combat interceptions.

PYTHON-5 full sphere air-to-air IR missile and air defence missile.

I-DERBY innovative active radar air-to-air missile. The missile incorporates the innovative I-DERBY software-defined RF seeker, combined with a unique increase of kinematic performance, with ranges of up to 100km (I-DERBY ER).

SPICE 250 stand-off air-to-ground gliding bomb based on Rafael’s scene-matching technology for precise hits at ranges of up to 100 kilometres.

The rest of the SPIKE family – SPIKE SR, LR/MR, ER, NLOS for ranges of 1.5-30 kilometres.

TROPHY combat-proven Active Protection System for armored platforms (heavy, medium and light weight vehicles).

The ARMOR SHIELD family of add-on armour for passive and reactive protection of AFV’s.

RECCELITE XR real-time multi-spectral reconnaissance system for stand-in and stand-off missions and RECCE-U XR real-time ISR system for UAVs, based on the previous.

And finally Rafael shows its Drone Detection and Neutralisation System: The DRONE DOME system is an innovative end-to-end system designed to provide effective airspace defence against hostile drones (Micro and Nano UAVs) used by terrorists and criminals to perform aerial attacks, collect intelligence, and other intimidating activities. DRONE DOME has 360-degrees circular coverage and is designed to detect, track, and neutralise drones either by jamming their communication or destroying them using a laser beam. DRONE DOME has a very fast response-time, causes minimal collateral interruptions to the surrounding urban environment, with maximum safety to friendly aircraft.
