1-8×24 PM II ShortDot Dual CC chosen for Bundeswehr “Military Equipment Patrol Configuration G28, Optics”

With the 1-8×24 PM II ShortDot Dual CC, Schmidt & Bender says it sets new standards. The company won the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) tender Military Equipment Patrol Configuration G28, Optics (“Rüstsätze Patrouillenkonfiguration G28, Anteil Optik“). According to the German procurement agency BAAINBw 368 units are to be procured.

The compact 2-in-1 sight combines a red dot in the second focal plane with an illuminated reticle in the first focal plane. This combines the advantages of a reflex sight with those of a conventional riflescope, providing an ideal solution for from short up to medium distances. The diffractive red dot technology allows the user, in combination with the CC mode (close combat mode), to use the riflescope as a reflex sight at short distances. In this mode, the scope parallax-free to less than 10m and is characterised by its 1.0-fold magnification. For magnifications over 1.1x, it is parallax-free at 100 m. Since the diffractive red dot is positioned in the second focal plane, the dot size is not magnified and retains constant.

At higher magnifications, the reticle in the first focal plane can be used to determine target distances and object sizes. With a maximum magnification of 8x, the 1-8×24 PM II ShortDot Dual CC provides ideal requirements for target identification and for use up to medium distances. Six different light increments each are available for the red dot as well as the reticle. Thereby the increments 1-3 are optimised for dark conditions as well as night vision devices and the increments 4-6 are optimised for daytime operation.

With a length of less than 30cm and a tube diameter of 30mm, the 1-8×24 PM II ShortDot Dual CC is an extremely compact 2-in-1 system. Visual fields of 35.3m and 4.9m are reached at 100 metres. The elevation and windage turrets are secured against unintended adjustment through a simple locking mechanism. The user has a direct elevation adjustment range of 120cm at 100m as well as a windage adjustment range of +/- 60cm at 100 metres. In addition to the black model, the scope is available in the camouflage colors RAL 8000 and Pantone 7504 M.

The first 1-8×24 PM II ShortDot Dual CCs will be delivered to the Bundeswehr at the end of 2017.
