Further Enhancements for SFAB Radios

New headsets to equip SFAB transceivers

In late December, Invisio announced that it would be supplying headsets and communications control systems for the US Army’s new Security Force Assistance Brigades (SFAB) following an order worth $1.2 million. See story here. It continued that this latest order follows an order in early December for $2.5 million for similar products. Invisio added that the delivery of these products to the SFABs would occur early this year.

Invisio’s announcement follows an announcement by Thales in mid-December that it would be equipping the US Army with its AN/PRC-148C Multiband Inter-Intra Team Radio (IMBITR) handheld radios to equip the SFABs.

According to the US Army, the SFABs are tasked with providing training, and advising and assisting coalition partner armed forces, with each SFAB comprising 500 officers and non-commissioned officers. As of June 2017, the US Army received funding for the activation of the first two of a planned six SFABs, with the these first two units expected to deploy to assist coalition training efforts in Afghanistan and Iraq, with deployments expected during the first quarter of this year.
