WFS & EERS launch underwater wireless ear-based core body temperature monitoring system for divers

During a US Department fo Defense (DoD) Special Operations Command (SOCOM) event held in the Florida Keys on 16 November, WFS Technologies, from Scotland, and EERS, from Canada, demonstrated SEATOOTH, one of the world’s first underwater wireless ear-based core body temperature monitoring systems for divers, for the first time.

The two companies partnered to develop a custom earpiece with integrated temperature sensor. The sensor is wirelessly enabled by a SEATOOTH wireless Personal Area Network (wPAN) node that transmits the diver’s core body temperature to SEATOOTH Wireless Communication and Control System (SWiCOM), a wireless underwater tablet that ensures secure and resilient communications. This allows a diver buddy to monitor the diver’s core body temperature through a secured connection.

The first generation of Seatooth SWiCOM was launched in early 2017 to gather customer feedback. On that basis, the system was upgraded with an improved user interface, extended communications range and additional functionality.
