Lionfish 30 and Hitfist 30 Bring Advanced Capabilities
Leonardo has formally unveiled new members of its naval and ground defence turret families – Lionfish 30 and Hitfist 30 respectively – at Seafuture in La Spezia this week, bringing new advanced capabilities to operators.
Both remote-controlled turrets mount the electrically-powered 30mm X-Gun developed by Leonardo, incorporating innovative, patented technologies. The compact, lightweight design of the Lionfish 30 allows for installation on small platforms, and the systems’ multiple target capability (driven by sophisticated AI algorithms) optimises engagement capability against a wide variety of threats in multiple combat scenarios. Other distinctive features include a high rate of fire, significant range and the ability to fire Advanced Hit Efficiency And Destruction (AHEAD) airburst ammunition, designed for better effect against airborne threats, such as mini- and micro-UAS. On the ground, the Hitfist 30 UL [Unmanned Light] turret, more compact and lighter than other family members, can be integrated with platforms that must operate within severe weight constraints – such as amphibious vehicles – and also uses airburst ammunition to enhance effectiveness against all types of asymmetrical threat.
Designed for use in modern, constantly evolving conflict scenarios, the two turrets join a portfolio that features renowned solutions such as the 76/62 Super Rapido and 127/64 Lightweight Vulcano naval guns and the 105/120 Hitfact and 25/30 Hitfist vehicle turrets, in service with multiple armed forces worldwide.
