Seafuture 2023: Leonardo Addresses Maritime Challenges

Highlights Comprehensive Naval Security Portfolio

Leonardo will highlight its comprehensive naval security offering, including the cyber and space domains, at Seafuture 2023 in La Spezia, 5-9 June.

New products on display will include the Athena Mk2 combat management system (CMS) multi-functional console, developed in collaboration with the Italian Navy and which will be integrated onto the service’s forthcoming U212 Near Future Submarines. The multi-touch graphical human-machine interface, supported by augmented reality, will enable agile management of the
information collected by onboard sensors, providing operators with comprehensive situational awareness and thereby enabling rapid mission planning and execution.

Also prominent during the event will be Leonardo’s naval artillery solutions, including the modular turrets of the Lionfish family, as well as radars, sensors, mission and communication systems, aircraft (including UAS), critical infrastructure protection and cyber security systems. A certain highlight will be the Kronos Power Shield AESA radar, an L-band solution with a 1,500km range, developed for the ballistic missile defence mission.

Over 500 Leonardo-built helicopters are in use for maritime missions in almost 40 countries, including the AW139, the 16t-class AW101 and the AWHero UAS, which has the capacity to carry a variety of sensors, including the Gabbiano ultra-light radar. As far as fized-wing assets are concerned, the C-27J Spartan next generation aircraft features new avionics, radar and modern communication systems. The aircraft can be configured for a wide variety of roles, including ASW, maritime patrol and C4ISR missions. The ATR 72 MP is similarly flexible, able to undertake missions as diverse as fishery protection, counter-narcotics, EW and SAR.

Leonardo will also emphasise its capabilities in both physical and cyber security for critical infrastructure, focusing in particular on solutions that can collect and correlate data from fixed and
mobile sensors in the field, alongside intelligence information on cyber threats and data from cyber security monitoring and management, to enable next-generation control rooms and platforms to train personnel for cyber attack and defence and to help test equipment resilience.

The Kronos Power Shield AESA naval radar will likely be a highlight of Leonardo’s offering at Seafuture 2023. (Leonardo)
