Sea-Air-Space 2017: Conference Floor Walkabout

Marty Kauchak reports from US Navy League Sea-Air-Space Expo at Gaylord National Convention Center, National Harbor, MA, USA.

Rochester, New York-based Spectracom‘s (Booth 2253) Bill Sharp, the company’s Senior Product Marketing Manager, noted Spectracom’s motto “resilient PNT [positioning, navigation and timing]” is especially relevant now, as GPS-based signals are increasingly vulnerable. Indeed, while GPS is weak because signals come from 20,000 km above the Earth, these signals are increasingly vulnerable to non-nation states and other actors intentionally spoofing and jamming. And those are only several reasons at the top of his list. In essence, if a platform or other entity loses a GPS signal, the company provides resiliency to shift to another signal. And in a message that should resonate well with the integrators and other industry members at this expo, Spectracom has been working aggressively to integrate resilient PNT technologies into Spectracom products, to make them more reliable, secure, and fault-tolerant. Sharp added: “These offerings range from rack-mounted products [for aircraft and ships] to ruggedised smaller units that you can put in unmanned vehicles for air, sea to ground, to a simulator.” The company’s products are typically sold to integrators.
