SCR Provide Targets for Spanish Air Force Exercise

Remote-Controlled Moving Targets Used for the First Time

SCR, an everis Aerospace, Defence & Security Group company, recently provided its aerial and ground targets to the Dardo 2018 training exercise organized by Combat Air Command (MACOM) of the Spanish Air Force.

The company has previously supplied its SCRAB II air to air targets for Air Force exercices, with at least 17 flights conducted using them in conjunction with F/A-18 HORNET and Eurofighter TYPHOON aircraft. Dardo 2018, however, marked the first occasion on which the RRS-1 ground target has been offered.

Three RRS-1 targets were used at the Bardenas Reales firing range in Navarre, providing F/A-18 pilots with remotely-controlled, moving targets for their AGM-65G MAVERICK air to surface missiles. This offers a significant increase in, “the realism of the launches, improving the training of the crews in flight,” according to a Spanish Air Force statement.

An SCR team worked in close collaboration with MACOM staff, taking complete charge of servicing the targets and their auxiliary systems, including platform preparation, transport, deployment, operation and recovery.
